Trading Statement
This trading statement is issued in compliance with the Listings
Requirements (section 3.4(b)) of the JSE Limited.
Mercantile`s earnings and headline earnings per share for the six months
ending 30 June 2007 are expected to improve by 50% to 70% and 42% to 62%,
respectively, compared to the earnings and headline earnings per share
reported for the six months ended 30 June 2006. This improvement in
earnings is largely attributable to the ongoing growth in core business and
income of a non-recurring nature.
The financial information on which this trading statement is based has not
been reviewed or reported on by the company`s auditors.
The results for the six months ending 30 June 2007 are expected to be
published towards the end of July 2007.
