Absa Bank Limited lists EUR 2 billion medium term note programme (EMTN) on the
London Stock Exchange and plans to issue up to EUR 500 million in senior bonds
South African based Absa Bank, a wholly owned subsidiary of Absa Group Limited
and part of the international Barclays Group plans to issue up to EUR 500
million in its inaugural senior unsecured bond issue. The bonds will be issued
under its EMTN programme listed on the London Stock Exchange.
The proceeds will be used for general funding purposes. The EMTN programme has
been established as part of the Absa strategy of diversifying its funding base.
The senior unsecured bonds issued under the EMTN programme have been assigned a
long-term rating of "A" by Fitch Ratings and "A2" by Moody`s.
Absa Bank has mandated Barclays Capital as sole arranger of its EMTN programme
and sole book runner for the proposed inaugural Euro denominated senior note
issue. The transaction will be launched, subject to market conditions, following
investor presentations in Europe scheduled for the end of June 2007.
