Changes to the board of directors
Group Five is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms Philisiwe Buthelezi as a
non-executive director and chairman designate of the Group Five board with
immediate effect. Ms Buthelezi will formally take over as chairman after the
company`s annual general meeting on the 16th of October 2007 when the current
chairman, Mr. D. Paizes retires.
Ms Buthelezi is the CEO of the National Empowerment Fund (NEF), which is tasked
with promoting and facilitating economic equality and transformation. Ms
Buthelezi was educated at the Sorbonne in Paris, France, where she studied
applied macroeconomics and obtained a French language diploma. She obtained an
MBA, specialising in corporate finance and international financial management
from the University of Sheffield. In 1992 she was employed at the SA Reserve
Bank and a year later became the first black South African woman to be a
corporate dealer at Standard Corporate and Merchant Bank. Before she joined the
NEF in 2005, she was the Chief Director of Black Economic Empowerment at the dti
and from 1997-2002 she was Regional Director for Europe for the dti, responsible
for facilitating foreign direct investment by European companies to South
Africa.
