TRADING STATEMENT
Truworths International Limited (`the group`) anticipates that both basic and
headline earnings per share for the 52 week period to 24 June 2007 will be
between 30% and 35% higher than those reported for the corresponding period in
2006.
Group sale of merchandise, which includes retail and franchise sales,increased
to R4 858 million, 27% above the corresponding period in 2006. This amount
includes the non comparable merchandise sales attributable to the newly acquired
Uzzi menswear chain. If merchandise sales of Uzzi were to be excluded, group
sale of merchandise would reflect an increase of 25% relative to that of the
prior period. Group comparable retail sales grew by 17%, with product inflation
measuring approximately 3.9%.
Identity sales increased by 39% to R502 million, with comparable sales growth
amounting to 15%.
The group opened 16 Truworths emporiums, 23 Identity, 2 YDE and 5 Uzzi stores,
relocated 12 stores and renovated and extended 15 stores during the period.The
group increased overall trading space by 12% relative to the prior period.
Shareholders are advised that the financial information contained in this
statement has neither been reviewed nor reported on by the external auditors,
and that the group`s audited final results for the period will be announced on
Thursday 23 August 2007.
