NUM members on strike at Sallies` Witkop operation
Sallies announces that wage payroll members of the National Union of Minewokers
(NUM) embarked on a protected strike at midnight, Wednesday 22 August, at the
company`s Witkop operations following a dispute over wage demands. Salary
employees of NUM at Witkop are not participating in the strike. The Buffalo
operations are unaffected by the strike.
The company said that its export schedule was unaffected by the strike and
supply of fluorspar to local customers would not be interrupted.
Negotiations between Sallies and NUM are proceeding and the company said it was
committed to finding a solution to the wage dispute.
