Shareholders are advised that in accordance with the provisions of section
1.9(b) of the Listings Requirements of the JSE Limited ("JSE"), trade in the
ordinary shares of Standard Bank (including derivative instruments) has been
halted at the request of Standard Bank. This is due to market speculation that
has arisen since the publication of the Standard Bank cautionary announcement
on 23 October 2007.
