SALES UPDATE
Truworths International Limited (`the Group`) announces that in a challenging
trading environment, Group retail sales for the 47 week trading period ended on
18 May 2008 increased to R5,166 million, 16.1% higher than the corresponding 46
week period in 2007. Comparable (same store) retail sales have grown by 8.7%
and product inflation has approximated 6%. Trading space has increased by 8.6%
relative to 24 June 2007. If the effect of the additional week in the current
period were to be excluded, Group retail sales would have shown an improvement
of 13.9% (6.7% on a comparable (same store) basis).
In the 20 week trading period subsequent to the end of the Group`s interim
period on 30 December 2007 (the results of which were announced on 21 February
2008), Group retail sales have increased by 12.2% relative to the corresponding
period in 2007, with the increase in the last four weeks approximating 10%.
Shareholders are advised that the financial information contained in this update
has neither been reviewed nor reported on by the external auditors, and that the
Group`s audited results for the 53 week period ending on 29 June 2008 are
scheduled to be announced on 20 August 2008.
