TRADING STATEMENT
This trading statement is issued in compliance with paragraph 3.4(b) of the
Listings Requirements of the JSE Limited.
Mercantile`s earnings and headline earnings per share for the six months
ending 30 June 2008 are expected to improve by 45% to 65% and 38% to 58%,
respectively, compared to the earnings and headline earnings per share
reported for the six months ended 30 June 2007 which is largely attributable
to the ongoing growth in core business. Following the restructuring of VISA
Inc. during the first quarter of 2008, Mercantile realised R9.857 million on
the redemption of shares awarded. This accounts for the difference between
earnings and headline earnings.
The financial information on which this trading statement is based has not
been reviewed or reported on by the company`s auditors.
The results for the six months ending 30 June 2008 are expected to be
published towards the end of July 2008.
