NEW HEAD OF TECHNICAL FOR SIMMERS
Simmer and Jack Mines, Limited (Simmers) is pleased to announce the appointment
of Roland Freeman as Group Technical Consultant with immediate effect.
Formerly Simmers` Group Consulting Mechanical and Electrical Engineer, Roland
takes over from Graham Wanblad, who retired as Simmers Executive Technical
Director at the end of May 2008.
"Roland has worked closely with Graham over the past three years on engineering
projects across the Group. He has been instrumental in the shaft refurbishment
programme at First Uranium`s Ezulwini Mine, and the construction of the gold and
uranium plants at Ezulwini and Mine Waste Solutions. Roland also oversaw the
construction of the Company`s first heap leach pad at Elandsdrift and project
managed the new CIL plant that was commissioned at Buffelsfontein Gold Mine in
October 2007.
"I have no doubt that he will continue to add immense value and provide a safe
pair of hands in terms of the implementing and commissioning of the Group`s many
new technical projects that are due to come on stream. In addition, I am
delighted to say that the Group will not be losing Graham`s considerable skills
and expertise as he has agreed to join the board of First Uranium with immediate
effect," said Gordon Miller, chief executive of Simmers.
Roland is a Professional Certificated Engineer and a Project Management
Professional as awarded by the Project Management Institute of America as well
as a registered member of the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) and the
association of mine resident engineers (AMRE). He has over 30 years experience
in the mining industry, during which he has project managed the design and
construction of mines in the gold, platinum and antimony sector.
