FIRE AT PAMODZI GOLD`S ORKNEY OPERATIONS
Junior Gold mining company Pamodzi Gold Limited (Pamodzi Gold) regrets to
announce that a fire occurred at its Orkney operation in the North West,
claiming the life of two of its employees.
The fire started at approximately 15h10, on Wednesday 18 June, on 53 level on
number two shaft. A miner and a winch operator regretfully died as a consequence
of gas and smoke inhalation. The names of the deceased cannot be released until
the next of kin have been notified.
All operations on the shaft have been stopped. The cause of the fire is unknown
and a full investigation has been launched in conjunction with the Department of
Minerals and Energy.
"Pamodzi Gold employees are our most important asset and safety is our first
priority. Any accident, fatal or otherwise, is unacceptable and we will apply
the findings from the investigation to further intensify safety throughout our
operations," said Peter Steenkamp, Pamodzi Gold`s chief executive officer.
The executive of Pamodzi Gold and the management of the Orkney operations have
expressed their sincere condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of
the deceased and assure them of Pamodzi Gold`s support during this difficult
time
