Fire at the Ruashi Mine Concentrator Plant, DRC
A fire broke out in the reagent preparation section of the Ruashi Concentrator
at 20h40 on 30 June which was extinguished by 21h05 on the same day. No-one was
injured. The fire was caused by a spike in the power supply which triggered an
electrical spark in a heating element in a reagent tank. Damage has been limited
to the loss of HDPE piping, certain reagent tanks and electrical cable to the
reagent dosing pumps. No damage was incurred to the mills, float cells,
thickener and filter press. This fire in the Concentrator has no impact on the
Copper Electrowinning Operations (Ruashi Phase II).
The company is insured against loss or damage from fire and has Loss of Profits
(LOP) cover with a 14 day indemnity period. The Concentrator is expected to be
back in full production within this indemnity period. A claim will be made for
property damage.
Normal operations are expected to recommence in five to seven days.
