TRADING STATEMENT
BCX shareholders are advised that operating profit for the financial year ended
31 May 2008 ("the period") is expected to increase by between 45% and 55%, which
has been positively impacted by improved trading driven by the group`s
revitalisation programme.
The group`s headline earnings per share for the period is expected to be between
15% and 25% higher than the corresponding reporting period of the previous year.
Basic earnings per share for the period is expected to be between 10% and 20%
lower than the corresponding reporting period of the previous year. This
reduction is due to the profit on the sale of the group`s commercial properties
to Growthpoint Properties Limited in the previous financial year.
The revitalisation programme is showing early signs of a positive influence on
the business and its performance.
The group identified five broad categories in its revitalisation programme to
improve operating margin and returns to shareholders. These categories are:
- aligning the group for the future;
- improving the quality of earnings;
- ensuring performance excellence;
- attracting and retaining the right people; and
- ensuring absolute accountability.
BCX`s results for the year ended 31 May 2008 will be released on SENS on
Tuesday, 26 August 2008.
The financial information on which this trading statement is based, has not been
reviewed or reported on by the group`s auditors.
