DIVIDEND DECLARATION OF 511,3 CENTS PER VARIABLE RATE NON-CUMULATIVE, NON-
REDEEMABLE FIRSTRAND B PREFERENCE SHARE
Shareholders are advised that the salient dates for the eighth dividend
declaration on the variable rate non-cumulative, non-redeemable B preference
shares in FirstRand ("B preference shares"), in the amount of 511,3 cents per B
preference share, will be as follows:
Last day to trade Friday, 15 August 2008
Shares commence trading "ex" the B Monday, 18 August 2008

dividend Monday, 25 August 2008
B Preference share certificates may not be dematerialised or rematerialised
between Monday, 18 August 2008 and Friday, 22 August 2008, both days inclusive.
In the event that there is a change to the prime rate between the B preference
share dividend declaration date ("the dividend declaration date") and the B
preference share dividend payment date ("the dividend payment date"), the
prevailing prime rate at the dividend declaration date will be applied from the
dividend declaration date to the dividend payment date.
The effect of the aforementioned will be that the B preference share dividend
will not be adjusted for any changes in the prime rate between the dividend
declaration date and the dividend payment date.
