TRADING STATEMENT
Rainbow`s results for the six months ended 30 September 2008 will be
released on SENS on Thursday, 20 November 2008. This trading statement is
issued in line with guidance provided at year end that the Group expected
2009 earnings to be lower than 2008.
Shareholders are advised that reported earnings, headline earnings, earnings
per share ("EPS") and headline earnings per share ("HEPS") for the six
months to September 2008 are likely to be 35% - 40% lower than the
corresponding reporting period of the previous year.
As previously noted, reporting the financial effects of certain financial
instruments used in the feed raw material procurement strategy introduces
volatility to the Group`s financial results. These financial instruments are
accounted for in terms of IAS 39 (Financial Instruments: Recognition and
Measurement). On a pre IAS 39 basis, earnings, headline earnings, EPS and
HEPS for the six months to September 2008 are likely to be 25% - 30% lower
than the corresponding reporting period of the previous year.
This trading statement is issued in compliance with the JSE Limited Listings
Requirements. The financial information on which this trading statement is
based has not been reviewed and reported on by the Group`s auditors.
