SIMMERS COMMISSIONS NEW HEAP LEACH PROJECT
Transvaal Gold Mining Estates Limited ("TGME"), a wholly-owned subsidiary of
gold miner Simmer & Jack Mines, Limited ("Simmers" or "the Company") began the
leaching process at its new heap leach pad at Elandsdrift on Monday 27 October,
a few days ahead of schedule.
The Mpumalanga-based mine finally received permission to begin mining activities
on 2 October 2008 and was aiming to commission the pad at the end of the month.
"We`ve begun irrigating the pad, which signals the official start of the heap
leach procedure, and expect to see the first gold from the project in December
this year," said Simmers CEO, Gordon Miller.
The Elandsdrift heap leach pad is a pilot project designed to confirm the
metallurgical parameters of the leach extraction process on a sand dump and is
expected to increase TGME`s total production in Q4 F2009 by 133% compared to Q2
F2009 production rates. The project is expected to yield a total of 5 777 ounces
of gold over a period of 13 months.
Elandsdrift is one of four pilot heap leach pads that the Company has planned to
commission in the next three years as part of a feasibility study to confirm the
potential for low-cost, low-risk surface mining in the area. Production from the
four pads is expected to yield 80 000 ounces of gold over four years from the
163 000 resource ounces which have been defined to date. More resources are
expected to be defined as further drill results from the Company`s surface
exploration programme become available.
