TRADING STATEMENT
Truworths International Limited (`the Group`) anticipates that both basic and
headline earnings per share for the 26 week trading period to 28 December 2008
(`the period`) will be between 12% and 17% higher than those reported for the
27 week period to 30 December 2007 ("the prior period").
In a challenging trading environment, Group retail sales for the period
increased to R3 415 million, 9% above the prior period, with product inflation
measuring approximately 6%, and trading space increasing by 11%.
If the effect of the additional trading week in the prior period is excluded,
Group retail sales reflect an increase of 13% (7% on a same store basis), and
basic and headline earnings per share for the period are anticipated to
increase by between 20% and 25%.
Shareholders are advised that the financial information contained in this
statement has neither been reviewed nor reported on by the external auditors,
and that the Group`s unaudited interim results for the period are scheduled to
be announced on Wednesday 18 February 2009.
