ABSA GROUP AND ABSA BANK: CHANGES TO THE BOARDS OF DIRECTORS
Absa Group and Absa Bank (Absa) are pleased to announce that Antony Jenkins and
Benoit de Vitry d`Avaucourt (known as Benoit de Vitry) have been appointed,
subject to regulatory approval, as non-executive directors of Absa, representing
Barclays Bank Plc.
Antony Jenkins and Benoit de Vitry will replace Frits Seegers and Roger Jenkins
as Barclays representatives on the Absa boards. Frits and Roger had served on
the Absa boards since October 2006 and June 2007 respectively, and have resigned
with effect from 11 February 2009. (The effective date of the new appointments
is still to be determined).
Antony Jenkins is Chief Executive Officer of Barclaycard, one of the world`s
largest card, consumer lending and payment businesses. He joined Barclays in
2006. Mr Jenkins has an MA from Oxford University and an MBA from Cranfield
Institute of Technology. He is also a member of the Chartered Institute of
Bankers.
Benoit de Vitry is Managing Director, Head of Global Markets - Trading, Europe
and Head of Commodities and Emerging Markets for Barclays Capital.
He joined Barclays in 2000 and has a Master of Science from the Massachusetts
Institute of Technology and an Engineering degree from l`Ecole Nationale des
Ponts et Chaussees.
Commenting on the new appointments, Gill Marcus, Chairperson of Absa said: "I am
delighted to welcome Antony and Benoit to the Absa boards. Their wide spread of
global financial services experience will be extremely valuable to the Absa
boards. I give my thanks to Frits and Roger for their wise counsel and guidance
