TRADING UPDATE AND POTENTIAL OFFER FOR AVI LIMITED
Trading Performance
The trading performance for the four months ended 31 January 2009 reflects a
general slowing down in the rate of growth in demand for the company`s products
and is in line with expectations. This performance is consistent with the
outlook for 2009 as was reported at the time of release of the 2008 year-end
results. The high levels of food price inflation experienced during the second
half of 2008 due to significant cost push factors, particularly in respect of
raw materials, are expected to moderate during the second half of 2009.
Barring unforeseen circumstances, the company expects to deliver another year of
real earnings growth in headline earnings per share in 2009.
Potential offer for AVI Limited ("AVI")
Shareholders are referred to the announcement made on 17 November 2008 relating
to a potential offer for AVI and the announcement made on 26 January 2009,
wherein Tiger Brands confirmed that further formal communication had been made
by Tiger Brands with the board of AVI regarding a potential offer. Until such
time as the company is in a position to make a further announcement,
shareholders are advised to continue to exercise caution when dealing in their
securities.
