TRADING STATEMENT
In accordance with paragraph 3.4 (b) of the Listings Requirements of the JSE
Limited, shareholders are advised that the company`s earnings and headline
earnings for the 6 months ended 31 December 2008 are expected to increase by
between 6.4 cents and 6.5 cents per share compared to the previous corresponding
period.
The increase in earnings is attributable to the fact that no impairment was
required, as was the case during the prior comparative period during which an
impairment was recognised in relation to the company`s investment in ENMo, a
company set up in Mozambique for the execution of an electricity generation,
distribution and sale concession. The impairment resulted from the unilateral
revocation of the concession by the Government of Mozambique.
The financial information on which this trading statement is based has not been
reviewed or reported on by the company`s auditors. The results for the six
months ended 31 December 2008 are expected to be published on or about 27
February 2009.
