Board changes
The company is pleased to announce that Khanyi Dhlomo and Nomahlubi Simamane
have been appointed as independent non-executive directors of Foschini with
immediate effect. In addition to the skills and experience that these
appointments bring, the Board believes that these changes reflect its commitment
to transformation and gender diversity.
Khanyi Dhlomo has held various media related roles, including editor of True
Love magazine. In addition she has held the position of manager of SA Tourism
in France. She is the founding MD of Ndalo Media, (a company she co-owns with
Media24), as well as being founding editor of Destiny, a business and lifestyle
magazine for women. She holds a BA degree from Unisa and an MBA from Harvard
Business School.
Nomahlubi Simamane has extensive marketing and advertising experience. She has
previously held the positions of marketing manager at Unilever, marketing
director of British American Tobacco and MD of BLGK Bates ad agency. She is
currently MD of Zanusi Brand Solutions, a branding consultancy she founded in
2001, as well as being a non-executive director of Cashbuild. She has played an
active role in the Association of Marketers in South Africa and has served on a
regional advisory council of the UN Development Programme. She has worked in
the United States and Kenya and she holds a BscHons in biology and chemistry
from the University of Botswana.
The company is further pleased to announce that Peter Meiring, managing director
of the group`s financial services division has been appointed as an executive
director of Foschini with effect from 1 April 2009. Peter has been with the
group for over 25 years and has served as a member of the operating board since
1999.
These appointments have received the unanimous approval of the Nominations
Committee and the Board.
In addition to the above changes, Eliot Osrin who has been the chairman of the
group since 1998 and a non-executive director since 1978 has indicated that he
will be stepping down as chairman and non-executive director at the end of the
current financial year.
David Nurek, who has been a non-executive director of Foschini since 1990 and
who currently holds the position of deputy chairman will assume the role of
chairman on 1 April 2009.
