DISCLOSURE IN TERMS OF REGULATION 43 OF THE BANKS ACT
A. Quarterly disclosure - Capital adequacy
In terms of Regulation 43, the Group is required to disclose quantitative
information on its capital adequacy ratios on a quarterly basis.
The consolidated capital position of the Group and the capital position of
Mercantile Bank Limited ("the Bank") at December 2008 are set out below.

B. Risk exposure
The Regulations also require details of any risk exposure or other item that is
subject to rapid or material change.
The current difficult global economic conditions are expected to have an
increasingly negative impact on the South African economy. These conditions are
expected to result in an increase in business defaults.
C. Bi-annual disclosure
In addition, the Regulations require bi-annual qualitative and quantitative
disclosure to the public. This disclosure is available on the Group`s website:
