SIMMERS BOOSTS GOLD DIVISION MANAGEMENT TEAM
Simmer and Jack Mines, Limited (Simmers) announced today that former Chief
Operating Officer, Deon van der Mescht, has been appointed Managing Director
(MD) of Simmers` Gold Division companies with immediate effect. Deon will be
responsible for overseeing the strategic management of Simmers` Gold operations,
namely Buffelsfontein Gold Mining Company (BGM), Tau Lekoa Gold mine (TLGM) and
Transvaal Gold Mining Estates (TGME).
Taking Deon`s place is Chris Vermeulen, who will join Simmers on 23 April 2009
as Chief Operating Officer. Formerly General Manager of Mining Operations at
Implats, Chris has extensive experience in the mining industry, having held
senior management positions at Randfontein, Blyvooruitzicht and BGM prior to
joining Implats in 2005. Chris`s brief is to focus on surface and underground
production at TGME and ensure the seamless integration of the recently acquired
TLGM into BGM.
"Simmers has grown at a rapid pace over the last few years and it`s essential
that we maintain the focus on delivery at each of our operations. TGME and BGM
are at a crucial point in their development and it`s essential to have a safe
pair of hands committed to delivery and able to realize the potential of all
these assets," said Gordon Miller, Simmers` Chief Executive.
"The decision to appoint Deon MD of Simmers` gold companies was an easy one,
given the role he`s played in growing the organization from a 10 000 ounce mine
in 2005 to a mid-tier producer of gold and uranium. Deon is ideally placed to
provide the leadership required to oversee the operations and take the necessary
steps to unlock shareholder value," said Miller.
Also joining the Simmers team is well-known gold analyst, Nick Goodwin, who took
up the role of Investor Relations Executive on 01 April 2009. Goodwin has over
30 years experience as a fund and portfolio manager and holds a Pr Eng and a BSc
Eng(Rand) Engineering. A mining analyst since 1979, Goodwin specializes in gold
and base metals.
.
"Nick`s appointment is as a result of our commitment to grow our institutional
shareholder base and provide a full service to fund and portfolio managers. We
are delighted to have someone of his calibre and expertise managing this
critical function," said Miller.
