QUARTERLY REPORT ON BASEL II CAPITAL ADEQUACY
Quarterly Report in terms of Regulation 43(1)(e)(ii) of the Banks Act 94 of 1990
(as amended).
Most of the information required to be disclosed is included in Nedbank Group`s
trading update for the three month period to 31 March 2009 (released on 7 May
2009) and the additional capital adequacy information given below should be read
in conjunction with that trading statement.
Nedbank Group remains strongly capitalised. The group`s Tier 1 capital adequacy
ratio improved from 9,6% at 31 December 2008 to 10,0% at 31 March 2009 while the
total capital adequacy increased from 12,4% to 13,2% over the same period.

1. Available capital includes unappropriated profits to the extent that they
are not expected to reverse
2. The minimum required capital and reserve funds balances reflected above do
not include the effect of Basel II capital floors for the bank which have
no effect on the above capital adequacy ratios
3. Nedbank Limited issued $100 million lower Tier 2 debt during the quarter

that is subject to rapid or material change. These are detailed in the trading
statement released on 7 May 2009.
