MODDER EAST PLANT PRODUCES FIRST GOLD FROM SURFACE STOCKPILE VERTICAL SHAFT
SINKING COMPLETE
Gold One International is pleased to announce that it has poured its first gold
at its Modder East gold processing plant, signaling the successful completion of
the commissioning phase. The plant has been completed on schedule, within
internal targets and well within budget.
The various circuits in the newly built Modder East plant have been undergoing
hot and cold commissioning since April 2009, and treatment of relatively low
grade ex-surface stockpile material (containing approximately 1g/t of gold) has
commenced. The company has secured a supply of 150 000 tonnes of this material,
which will be processed over the next few months. Treatment of the stockpiled
Sub Nigel ore will commence shortly. Low grade ore has been used in the
commissioning process to reduce lockup from high-grade Modder East material and
to significantly reduce the risk of gold losses to tailings from high grade
material during start-up. The commissioning focus will shift to increasing
throughput by ironing out bottle necks and to improve performance and
recoveries.
Separately, the company is pleased to report that on Thursday, 18 June 2009, the
last blast took place in the development of the company`s 345m deep vertical
shaft at its flagship Modder East operation. During the previous month, Gold One
completed the Buckshot Pyrite Leader Zone ("BPLZ") footwall station at 325m
below surface. The Modder East vertical shaft, which will primarily be used for
personnel access and ventilation, services only one station, which significantly
lowers operating cost and improves efficiency of people logistics. The equipping
of the shaft will now commence, while the permanent headgear and winder house,
which are currently being assembled on site, will be placed onto its permanent
foundations above the vertical shaft after equipping is completed in October of
this year.
Underground development continues to expose good quality reef, confirming the
geological model. A total of 120m of reef development has taken place since
April this year.
Commenting on the progress, Neal Froneman, President and CEO said: "Pouring the
first gold confirms commissioning of the plant is complete, thereby ensuring its
integrity, while giving the team time to fine tune the process prior to us
feeding high grade Modder East ore through the system. Completion of the
fatality free sinking operations signifies yet another milestone in the
development of our operation, allowing us now to complete equipping and thus
enabling efficient access to our shallow underground workings. "
