The Company announces that it was notified by Mr N F Nicolau, a PDMR of the
Company, that, on 5 August 2009, Mr Nicolau purchased 2,000 Anglo American plc
Ordinary shares (the "Shares") at a price of R262.40 per share. Accordingly,
Mr Nicolau`s beneficial interest in Shares has increased by 2,000.
The notification of this transaction is to satisfy the Company`s obligations
under the Companies Act and the Financial Services Authority Disclosure and
Transparency Rules.
