CHANGE TO THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS
New Appointment
In terms of Section 3.59 (a) of the Listings Requirements of JSE Limited
("JSE"), the Board of Gold Fields is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr
Alan Richard Hill as an independent Non-Executive Director of the Company, with
effect from Friday, 21 August 2009.
Mr Hill serves on the board of Gabriel Resources and until recently was Chairman
of Alamos Gold: both companies are involved in gold exploration and development.
Mr Hill joined Barrick Gold in 1984. He spent 19 years with Barrick and was
instrumental in its considerable growth, having played a pivotal role in its
various merger and acquisition initiatives through the years. He retired from
Barrick in 2003 as its Executive Vice President Development.
Mr Hill brings to the Gold Fields Board significant experience and leadership in
terms of project evaluation, management, and development, as well as an in-depth
knowledge of corporate transactions and sustainable development issues in the
mining sector.
Mr Hill holds a B.Sc (Mining Engineering) as well as a M.Phil (Rock Mechanics)
from Leeds University.
The Board welcomes Alan to the Gold Fields Group and looks forward to his
contribution.
