FURTHER CLOSING DATE OF THE OFFER
Merchant shareholders are referred to the announcements published on 31 October
2008, 13 March 2009, 2 April 2009, 13 May 2009 and 15 July 2009, as well as the
circular posted to Merchant shareholders on 13 March 2009 in regard to an offer
by Marshall Monteagle Holdings Societe Anonyme ("Marshall") to acquire the 30.3%
of the issued ordinary share capital of Merchant that Marshall does not already
own.
As at the date of this announcement, Marshall has received acceptances for an
additional 3 774 564 Merchant shares, representing 21.7% of the issued share
capital of Merchant that Marshall does not already own. This, in addition to the
69,7% already owned by Marshall, represents 91.4% of the issued share capital of
Merchant.
Shareholders attention is drawn to the fact that, in terms of the JSE Listings
Requirements should the shareholder spread not be maintained by Merchant once
the offer has been closed and 90% of the 30,3% not already held by Marshall not
achieved, those shareholders who do not accept the offer will remain
shareholders in a company that might face possible suspension and termination of
its listing.
Notice is hereby given that the closing date of the offer has been extended to
12h00 on Friday, 29 January 2010.

Shares trade "ex" the Offer Monday, 25 January
Record date for participating in the Offer Friday, 29 January
Closing date of the offer at 12h00 Friday, 29 January
Notes:
1. The above dates and times are subject to change. Any changes will be
released on SENS and published in the press.
2. Shareholders may not dematerialise or rematerialise their shares between
Monday 25 January 2010 and Friday 29 January 2010 , both days inclusive.
All other terms and conditions of the offer remain extant.
