FATAL INCIDENT AT BUFFELSFONTEIN GOLD MINE
Simmers regrets to announce that a fall of ground at its Buffelsfontein Gold
Mine in the North West Province has claimed the life of hydraulic prop team
leader, Mr Lebajoa Takana.
The incident took place on Thursday, 24 September 2009 at the mine`s No.5A
Shaft, on 71 level, some 2 154 metres below surface.
Drilling and blasting operations at No.5A Shaft have been suspended.
Gordon Miller, chief executive of Simmers, said: "The Company expresses its
sincere condolences to the family of Lebajoa Takana, as well as to his friends
and colleagues who have worked so closely together to ensure the successful re-
opening and rehabilitation of this shaft, and we assure them of our support
during this difficult time."
"We will be presenting to the principal inspector of the Department of Mineral
Resources to satisfy him that remedial actions to prevent such an incident from
occurring have been put in place."
