TRADING STATEMENT
In accordance with paragraph 3.4(b) of the Listings Requirements of the JSE
Limited, shareholders are advised that the Group`s results for the six month
period ended 31 December 2009, being earnings and headline earnings per share
are expected to improve by between 135% and 155% when compared to the prior
corresponding period for both continuing and discontinuing operations.
The restructuring programme which has almost been completed has begun to yield
positive returns. The Group has enjoyed solid trading results and a return to
profitability over the period. Furthermore, sales and stock targets were in line
with expectations with encouraging sell through of products being reported over
the festive season.
Whilst we expect the retail business environment to remain extremely challenging
going forward with a strong possibility of further contraction, the Board is
confident of continued positive performance throughout 2010.
The financial information on which this trading statement has been based has not
been reviewed or reported on by the Group`s auditors. The Group`s results for
the six months ended 31 December 2009 are expected to be published on or about 9
March 2010.
