Trading Statement
AFGRI shareholders are advised that the Company is expecting an increase of
between 20% and 25% in earnings per share and between 3% and 5% in headline
earnings per share for the six months ended 31 December 2009 compared to that of
the previous year. Diluted headline earnings per share for the six months ended
31 December 2009 are expected to remain unchanged.
These results are supported by improved performances from the Group`s grain
storage business unit and the animal protein division, comprising both animal
feeds and the Daybreak poultry operations. The significantly smaller percentage
increase in headline earnings per share arises from the fact that the prior
period comparative figure includes an add-back of approximately R32 million of
impairment losses arising from discontinued operations.
This trading statement has not been reviewed or reported on by AFGRI`s external
auditors. The release of the final announcement of results for the six months
ended 31 December 2009 is expected to be published on SENS on or about 24
February 2010.
