TRADING STATEMENT
In terms of the Listings Requirements of the JSE Limited, companies are
required to publish a trading statement as soon as they are reasonably certain
that the financial results for the period to be reported on next will differ by
at least 20% from the previous corresponding period.
Accordingly, shareholders are advised that Universal expects its earnings and
headline earnings per share for the year ended 31 December 2009 to be between
25% and 30% lower than the earnings and headline earnings per share for the
year ended 31 December 2008 (the "previous corresponding period").
Annual financial results containing more information will be published during
March 2010.
The financial information on which this trading statement is based has not
been reviewed or reported on by the company`s auditors.
