CHANGES TO THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF DISCOVERY HOLDINGS AND ITS OPERATING
SUBSIDIARY COMPANIES
In compliance with the Listing Requirements of the JSE Limited, shareholders
are advised of the following changes to the boards of Discovery Holdings and
its operating subsidiary companies. The changes enhance Discovery`s
governance structures, and will leverage the experience of key executives in
order to bring additional rigour and debate to the decision-making process.
Vhonani Mufamadi has been appointed as a non-executive director to the boards
of Discovery Holdings, Discovery Health, Discovery Life and Discovery
Vitality. Mr Mufamadi brings with him years of experience as an attorney and
consultant, and strong business acumen as a founding member of investment
company Muvoni Investment Holdings. Mr Mufamadi`s appointment as a director
is effective from 3 June 2010.
With effect from 15 April 2010, Dr Jonathan Broomberg, Hylton Kallner, and Dr
Penny Thlabi have been appointed to the board of Discovery Health, while
Hylton Kallner and Kenny Rabson have been appointed to the board of Discovery
Life.
In his role as Deputy CEO of Discovery Health, Dr Broomberg is integrally
involved in establishing the overall strategic direction of the business, and
based on his extensive experience in the public and private health sectors,
has led our engagement efforts with Industry and the Department of Health to
find solutions to sustainable healthcare funding and delivery. Hylton Kallner
currently serves as Chief Marketing Officer of Discovery Holdings, and is a
member of the Discovery Holdings, Discovery Health, Discovery Life and
Discovery Vitality Executive Committees. In addition, Mr Kallner plays an
important role in Discovery`s Research and Development forums. Dr Thlabi
currently serves as Strategic Corporate and Public Affairs Executive at
Discovery Holdings. The role includes responsibility for the overall Public
Affairs strategy, as well as the Discovery Foundation, whose mandate is to
improve public healthcare delivery through public:private partnerships and
corporate social investment. Mr Rabson was one of the founding members of
Discovery Life in 2000, and has played an important role in establishing the
strategic direction of the business since launch. He is currently responsible
for all actuarial functions within Discovery Life, and heads up Product
Development for both Discovery Life and Discovery Invest.
