FALL OF GROUND INCIDENT AT BUFFELSFONTEIN GOLD MINE
Simmer & Jack Mines, Limited regrets to announce that a fall of ground at its
Buffelsfontein Gold Mine in the North West Province has claimed the lives of
three employees.
Mine overseer, Johannes Hendrik Naude (43) of Klerksdorp and shift bosses
Adriaan JP Zietsman (37) of Orkney and Steven Grobbelaar (24), also of
Klerksdorp, died following a fall of ground that took place on Tuesday 04 May
2010 at the mine`s Number Five Shaft, on level 27. The men were engaged in a
routine inspection at the time of the incident.
Nico Schoeman, chief executive of Simmers, said: "This is an extremely difficult
time for our mining community and we extend heartfelt condolences to the
families, friends and colleagues of the deceased."
The mine`s Number Five Shaft remains closed pending an investigation into the
incident.
