Metorex Limited appoints Hester Hickey as an independent non-executive director
Metorex Limited is pleased to announce the appointment of Hester Hickey (56) as
an independent non-Executive Director and as the Chair of the Audit Committee
effective 21 May 2010.
Rob Still, Chairman of Metorex commented: "We are pleased to welcome Hester onto
our Board and we are confident that she will make a substantial contribution. We
are looking forward to the value and expertise, with specific reference to
finance, audit and risk management relating to mining in Africa, which she
brings to the Board and we wish her the very best in her new role."
Hester gained extensive executive experience in African mining with AngloGold
Ashanti over a period of ten years. For the last two years in that role she
held the position of Executive Officer: Head of Risk. Additionally, Hester was
Chair of SAICA (South African Institute of Chartered Accountants) for two years
and was previously Chair of their Audit, HR and Finance Committees. She also
completed two terms over a period of seven years as a member of the Johannesburg
municipality audit committee.
Her previous roles also include Senior Manager: Corporate Governance at Liberty
Life, General Manager Risk Consulting at Marsh South Africa and a partner at
Ernst & Young.
Hester currently works as a consultant, non-executive director, trustee and
audit committee chair for various organisations which include;
- Audit committee Chairman of Two Rivers Platinum - a joint venture between
ARM Ltd. and Impala Platinum Ltd. and Nkomati Nickel - a joint venture
between ARM Ltd. and Norilsc Nickel Ltd.
- Trustee and Chairman of the audit committee of AngloGold Ashanti Pension
Fund
- Non-Executive Director and Chairman of AGRE Limited, (Anglogold Ashanti
Ltd`s captive insurance company)
- Trustee and member of the audit, investment and risk committees of the
Sentinal Pension Fund and the Mineworkers Fund representing the Chamber of
Mines.
- Non-Executive Director and audit committee member of Omnia Limited and
Glenrand MIB Limited.
The extensive experience in mining, finance, risk management, internal audit and
corporate governance that Hester brings is an essential asset for Metorex and
her appointment serves to strengthen the independence of the Board.
