DRILLING AND BLASTING OPERATIONS RESUME AT BUFFELSFONTEIN GOLD MINE
Simmers is pleased to announce that drilling and blasting operations
have resumed at all six of Buffelsfontein Gold Mine`s operating shafts.
Underground operations were temporarily suspended on 6 May 2010 in order
to conduct a full safety audit following a fall of ground at the mine`s
Number 5 shaft in which three mine employees regrettably lost their
lives.
"The safety audit has been completed to the satisfaction of the
Department of Mineral Resources, and the independent rock engineers and
we are now focusing on meeting our production and safety targets going
forward," said Simmers CEO, Nico Schoeman."
The temporary stoppage of its underground operations is estimated to
have cost Buffelsfontein Gold Mine approximately 120kg (3 858oz) in lost
gold production.
