In compliance with paragraph 3.59 of the Listings Requirements of the JSE
Limited, the board of directors of Santam Limited ("the board") hereby notifies
its shareholders that Mr Desmond Kent Smith has resigned with effect from 02
June 2010 as a Non-Executive Director in order to take up his position as
Chairman at Sanlam Ltd. Desmond has served on the board since 01 April 1994 and
as Chairman since 25 February 2003. Desmond has contributed significantly to the
success of Santam and Management and the Board take this opportunity of thanking
Desmond for his loyal and dedicated contribution to the Group and wish him well
in his future career.
