PICK N PAY APPOINTS TWO NEW INDEPENDENT NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTORS
Pick n Pay has announced the appointment of two independent non-executive
directors to the board of Pick n Pay. Lorato Phalatse and Alex Mathole will be
joining the board effective 01 November 2010.
Lorato Phalatse has an MA in Southern African Development and a BA (Honours) in
Political Science. After qualifying with her MA in 1985, Lorato worked in a
number of private sector capacities, mainly in the retail supply chain arena,
before joining the Gauteng Provincial Government as Director - Cabinet Office in
1996 prior to being appointed Chief Director - Management Services. In 1998, she
returned to the private sector to join Nozala Investments as its CE, returning
to the public service to accept an appointment as Deputy Director General for
National Government, heading up the Private Office of the President of South
Africa. In this role she was responsible for the strategic and operational
management of the private office of the President.
Lorato rejoined Nozala Investments in 2007 as Executive Director, a role which
she currently holds. Lorato has previously served on the boards of Transcend
Corporate Advisors (Non-Executive Chairperson), Tsebo Group, Educor, Women`s
Development Bank, Self-Empowerment International and Denel.
Alex Mathole holds a postgraduate Bachelor of Laws and a B Juris. She started
her legal career in 1997 and has held several positions in the private sector,
notably at Securicor, Omega Risk Solutions, in her own business venture and now
at Siemens where she has been since 2006, holding the post of Executive Director
and General Counsel: Legal and Compliance. She currently sits on the board of
Siemens Limited, Siemens Healthcare Diagnostics, Siemens Botswana, Tanzania,
Mozambique, Namibia and Kenya and is the chairman of Siemens Building
Technologies (Pty) Ltd.
In 2009 Alex was nominated for SA Leading Women in Business and Government and
also featured in Leading Women in Business: Magazine in 2004 for her role in the
private security sector as National Chairperson of the Industry Association.
