NEWCASTLE FACILITY : IN FULL PRODUCTION
Shareholders are referred to the unaudited group earnings results for the
quarter ended 30 September 2011 released on SENS on 3 November 2011 wherein it
was stated that ArcelorMittal South Africa`s operational performance suffered
a major setback when the Newcastle plant experienced a catastrophic failure of
its blast furnace`s dust catcher in early August 2011.
Shareholders were further advised that repairs to the dust catcher were
progressing well and that indications were that production would start in
early December 2011. The insurance claim was estimated at R1.1 billion.
The Newcastle plant resumed full production on 9 December 2011. The company is
working hard to eliminate the sales backlog as soon as possible. The current
insurance claim is still estimated to be in line with the R1.1 billion
reported earlier. After a deductible amount of R160 million was taken into
account the company received an interim payment of R490 million in December
2011.
