(the "ETF")
A Portfolio in the NewFunds Collective Investment Scheme in Securities
registered as such in terms of the Collective Investment Schemes Control Act, 45
of 2002
DISTRIBUTION ANNOUNCEMENT - PERIOD ENDED 31 March 2012
Further to the announcement released on SENS on 8 March 2012, holders of ETF
securities are advised that there will be a distribution for the period 31 March
2012 of 2 cents per ETF security. The distribution is comprised entirely of
local dividends.
The distribution will be paid on Wednesday, 2 May 2012 to all holders recorded
on the register on Friday, 30 March 2012.
There has been a delay in making the announcement which was expected to have
been made by 23 April 2012 in order to allow the issuer to obtain clarity on
whether Dividends Withholding Tax, effective 1 April 2012, would be applicable
to distributions paid after 1 April 2012. SARS has confirmed that since
dividends declared prior to 1 April were subject to Secondary Tax on Companies
in the hands of the companies declaring them, the distribution (part thereof
comprising dividends) to investors for the period prior to 1 April 2012, is not
subject to dividends tax.
Holders of Shariah ETF securities ("investors") are advised that the appropriate
purification of dividends, through the donation of 5% of the dividends to
charity, needs to be effected by each investor. Absa Islamic Banking`s Shari`ah
Supervisory Board (SSB) has provided the following list of approved charitable
institutions. The list is not exhaustive and it is therefore not obligatory to
use one of the specified charities:
