Shareholders are referred to the announcement made on 24 October 2012 in respect of
SACMHs subsidiary, Umlabu Colliery Proprietary Limited (Umlabu), having arrived at
a point where the company had taken a decision to suspend mining operations and place
the mine on a care and maintenance programme.
Consultations with the National Union of Mineworkers, facilitated by a Commissioner of
the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration were successfully concluded
in December 2012 and operations suspended on 14 December 2012. A small staff has been
retained to maintain the coal processing plant, as well as to ensure that the
rehabilitation process proceeds, all environmental requirements and safety regulations
are complied with and assets are secured.
