FATAL ACCIDENT AT TAU LEKOA MINE
Village regrets to announce the death of an employee in a suspected electric shock incident that occurred
during the night shift operation on Thursday, 31 of January 2013, at its Tau Lekoa mine in Orkney.
The Board and management of Village express their deepest condolences to the family, friends and
colleagues of the deceased.
The Department of Mineral Resources (“DMR”) inspectorate in the Klerksdorp region was alerted and an
initial investigation has been conducted. The inspectorate has issued a Section 54 instruction, stopping all
activities related to the reef horizon. The management team is working closely with the DMR to try and
minimise the impact of the stoppage, while a full investigation continues.
