Business Update
Investors are advised of the following incidences which have or will affect
production at Palabora.
1. South winder bearing failure
On 13 February 2013 the south winder bearing hub bolts sheared and
fortunately the winder was running at creep speed when the failure occurred.
The winder was safely brought back into operation on 24 February 2013. Ore
hoisting was reduced to 50% of normal rates during this period.
2. Derailment at Kenga bridge Mozambique
Palabora rails magnetite to Maputo and Richards Bay ports in addition to the
road trucking to the former. On 18 February 2013 a derailment occurred over
a bridge in Kenga, Mozambique. It is estimated that the rail line will be out of
service for about six weeks and will affect magnetite exports. Palabora will
maximise on available capacity on both road trucking to Maputo and railing to
Richards Bay during this period.
