North hoisting winder out of service
Shareholders are advised that the north hoisting winder will be out of service due to
tangled tail ropes. The tail ropes became tangled during the morning of Monday,
13 May 2013 due to a process control failure. At this stage of the investigation, it has
been determined that a small quantity of spillage from the skip loading station
entered the shaft and interfered with the tail ropes. Fortunately nobody was injured
when this occurred.
The work currently done to put the winder ropes back in order, whereby hoisting can
recommence, is being run under the business’ Business Resilience & Recovery
Programme. At this stage it is anticipated that the north hoisting winder will be back
in service by the middle of next week. The south winder will also be out of service for
a number of days this week whilst the tangled ropes are being removed.
This event will diminish May’s forecast hoisting volumes from the underground mine.
However, pleasingly there are sufficient inventories to keep the downstream copper
sections producing and also allows for opportune maintenance to be carried out.
