Trading Statement – 6 months to 30 June 2013
In terms of section 3.4(b) of the JSE Listings Requirements Sanlam shareholders are advised
that the Group’s Headline Earnings per share and Earnings per share for the six months
ended 30 June 2013 are expected to exceed that reported in respect of the corresponding
period in 2012 by between 35% and 45%. Normalised Headline Earnings per share are
expected to be up between 30% and 40%. This outperformance is in part due to exceptional
items, including certain one off positive investment revaluations of some R200 million in the
current reporting period and the discontinuance of the charge in Group earnings for
Secondary Tax on Companies following its replacement with a dividend withholding tax.
The information in this trading statement has not been reviewed or reported on by Sanlam's
external auditors. Sanlam’s results for the six months ended 30 June 2013 are due to be
released on 5 September 2013.
