COURT FINDS IN FAVOUR OF E-TOLL BILL
The South African National Roads Agency SOC Limited welcomes the verdict of the court in the
matter involving the Democratic Alliance’s challenge of the constitutionality of the Transport Laws
and Related Matters Amendment Bill (otherwise known e-toll Bill).
“The legality of the bill has now been tested before a court of law and a ruling made in favour of
government and SANRAL. We urge those who have questioned the legality of this bill to respect
the court’s judgement,” SANRAL’s spokesperson Vusi Mona said shortly after the judgment was
delivered.
It must be pointed out that the process of e-tolling is increasingly running smoothly as the number
of registered road users grows and the need for, and advantages of the system, are widely
accepted. Where challenges still exist, SANRAL and its service provider Electronic Toll Company
are resolving these.
SANRAL thanks the more than a million people and organisations who have already registered
and looks forward to their continued support and urge other road users to avail themselves of the
benefits by registering and getting tagged.
