In terms of paragraph 3.83(b) of the JSE Limited Listings Requirements and section 122(3)(b) of the
Companies Act, No 71 of 2008, as amended, Massmart shareholders are advised that on 16 March
2016 Massmart was notified by Aberdeen Asset Managers Limited (and/or acting for its affiliates) as
discretionary investment manager on behalf of multiple managed portfolios (“Aberdeen”) that Aberdeen
on 22 February 2016 acquired a beneficial interest in Massmart ordinary shares such that the total of all
beneficial interests in Massmart ordinary shares held by Aberdeen was thereafter 20.07% of the total
issued Massmart ordinary shares. On 25 February 2016 Aberdeen disposed of a beneficial interest in
Massmart ordinary shares such that the total of all beneficial interests of Massmart ordinary shares held
by Aberdeen was thereafter 19.95% of the total issued Massmart ordinary shares.
