Termination of SWIX Indices - Informative Notice

FTSE/JSE would like to draw clients' attention to the Market Consultation that was published in November 2024. The
purpose of the consultation was to solicit feedback on the implementation of Phase 2 of the Index Harmonisation project,
which involves the termination of the SWIX Indices as well as the SAPY (J253) and PCAP (J254).
The feedback received from the consultation indicated that clients were in support of the proposal to terminate the SWIX
indices however the proposed termination of the J253 and J254 should be put on hold in order to allow index users
more time to consider the impact of the termination of the two property indices. There was also a request that the JSE
formally approach the FSCA to assist SWIX index users with the switch.
In light of this, FTSE/JSE would like to announce that the SWIX indices will be decommissioned on the 31st of December
2025 (Termination Date), with the exception of the J253 and the J254 indices.
FTSE/JSE would also like to support domestic index users by engaging directly with the FSCA on behalf of the industry.
This engagement will explore ways to simplify the transition process for those funds that want to change benchmarks
or tracking index from a SWIX index to the equivalent vanilla index before the Termination Date. In this event, the
constituents and weightings of the two indices would be identical, but the index code or name would require amendment.
Any index user that would like more information about participating in this FTSE/JSE process is invited to notify us
directly on indices@jse.co.za by no later than Friday, 31 January 2025.
