TRADING STATEMENT AND CAUTIONARY ANNOUNCEMENT
Shareholders are hereby notified that Basil Read"s results for the year-ended 31
December 2003 could be substantially higher than the audited results for the
year-ended 31 December 2002 ("substantially" being an increase of 30% or more as
defined by the Listings Requirements of the JSE Securities Exchange South
Africa). The results for the year-ended 31 December 2003 have not been reviewed
and reported on by Basil Read"s auditors, and therefore shareholders are advised
to exercise caution when dealing in the company"s shares until the publication
of the year-end results on or about 5 March 2004.
