The Department of Health today granted approval for the transfer of 32 licences
of pharmacies in the Purchase Milton & Associates (PM&A) group to New Clicks.
Trevor Honneysett, group leader of New Clicks, welcomed the approval of the
licences, and said the pharmacies will now be integrated into the Clicks brand
on a phased basis.
"This is the final hurdle in introducing pharmacy dispensaries into Clicks
stores and our first Clicks Pharmacy will be opened this week."
Following the amendments to the Pharmacy Act last year which allowed for
corporate ownership of pharmacies and dispensaries, New Clicks applied for the
transfer of licences for the 80 PM&A stores.
The balance of the licence applications are currently being considered and it is
expected that these will be approved shortly once the administrative formalities
have been completed.
In August 2003, regulatory approval was granted for New Clicks to acquire PM&A
subject to the transfer of licences, and this transaction will be completed when
the remainder of the licences have been approved and granted.
