Current status
During the six months to 31 December 2003, our South African C-Track unit sales
increased by 62% compared with the same period in 2002. Units exported also
increased marginally but, with new export markets opened, we expect this figure
to increase in the next financial year. Exports to Pakistan have been
particularly strong and we expect further growth in this market. We recently
concluded a distribution agreement for Nigeria, and a similar agreement in
another developing country is close to finality. We look forward to developing
these exciting markets.
We have remained focused on our core business, expanding our product range with
the official launch of our Solo and Assist products. These have been very well
received and will provide us with extremely powerful and flexible technology for
ongoing product development. As part of this process, our GPRS products are due
to be launched soon, after thorough testing. It is a comprehensive solution,
which will give us a distinct competitive advantage and bring clear benefits to
our customers both in South Africa and abroad.
Our executive management has been reduced to a dedicated core, enabling each
person to concentrate on an area of specialisation, while working as a team to
drive the business. This allows us to remain focused and to comply with King II
governance standards. N Vlok fulfilled the roles of Chairman and Chief Executive
Officer for the period under review. The intention is to appoint an independent
Chairman.
During the period, we were awarded VESA SVR (stolen vehicle recovery) status for
our C-Track product range. This will enhance the opportunity to provide another
service to our clients while building our annuity income even further. Our
control room and IT systems were again upgraded during the period and we have
started offering existing clients a competitive outsourced information
management package.
Expected government-related business was delayed by tender processes. We are
confident that DigiCore is well placed to secure more government business when
it is awarded.
Future
We have established an initiative in conjunction with our associate company,
Trakker Pakistan, to develop markets in the Middle East and Asia. We are
assessing potential partners in several countries in the region and look forward
to steadily growing exports to this region over the next few years.
Our joint venture with Tracker Networks (South Africa) has produced very
positive initial market tests. We look forward to increasing annuity income from
this source during the next financial year.
Financial performance
The board is pleased to announce a revenue increase from R80,4 million to R92,1
for the period under review, mainly due to the upswing in the South African
economy, particularly new truck sales, during the past six months.
Operating profit before depreciation increased from R15,0 million to R15,6
million for the review period. Included in this operating profit is a foreign
exchange loss of R2,6 million.
Due to strict cash management procedures, the finance cost has been reduced from
R733 000 to R65 000 and cash on hand rose from R36,4 million to R58,7 million
during the interim reporting period.
The profitability trend of DigiCore Europe continued, with the company
contributing a profit of R532 000 to DigiCore Group results, compared to a loss
of R278 000 for the same period in the previous financial year.
Headline earnings per share increased from 4,1 cents in the comparative period
to 5,1 cents for the review period. The board has decided not to declare an
interim dividend.
Net tangible asset value grew from 38,9 cents (December 2002) to 46,5 cents per
share as at 31 December 2003.
Company announcement and repurchase of shares.
The announcement relating to the trading update is hereby withdrawn.
Shareholders are also referred to the announcement published in the press on 5
March 2004 regarding the specific pro rata repurchase of shares by the company.
A circular containing full details regarding the specific pro rata repurchase,
the general meeting and the salient dates will be mailed to shareholders in due
course.
The company has repurchased 1 220 700 shares during the period under review in
terms of the general authority to repurchase shares.
